After a miserable 2020-21 season in which they missed the playoffs entirely, Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk is looking for a big year from his team.

«I know you make your personal and your team legacy in playoffs,» Tkachuk said. «So that's what I'm hoping to do this year is make a very long run in the playoffs and do something special with our team. Because I would love to do that with that group of guys there.»

Through Tkachuk's first five seasons in the league, the Flames have qualified for the postseason three times including leading the Western Conference in points in 2018-19. They have failed to cause any damage in the playoffs during his time with the team however, failing to advance out of the first round in all three attempts.

«I consider myself to be a solid player that hasn't done a lot so far in the league yet,» Tkachuk continued. «So hoping for a year where I can prove that this year.»

The 23-year-old was one of many Flames who struggled in 2020-21, as he managed 16 goals and 43 points in 56 games. While those numbers are quite solid for some, Tkachuk has proven in the past he is capable of more. He certainly seems motivated, meaning both he and his team could be in store for a big year.
