Evgeni Malkin appears to be a Penguin for life, but a recent rumour has suggested that may not be the case after all, with the Dallas Stars a potential suitor.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled early in the 2024/25 season, and with the team fading from playoff contention, rumours are out there that they are ready to be big time sellers.

At this point, Evgeni Malkin has been revealed to be a non-negotiable for General Manager Kyle Dubas, but given that he's still having success at age 38, he could fetch the team some great value.

In 27 games played this season, Malkin has put together 6 goals and 18 points, and if he does hit the trade market, there will be plenty of interest in the former No. 2 overall draft pick.

Now, Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects has shared a shocking rumour, revealing that the Dallas Stars are becoming a genuine landing spot for the three-time Stanley Cup Champion.

According to Robinson, the team have been aware that Tyler Seguin was needing surgery, and with a stint on LTIR clearing up some salary cap space, they have had discussions about trading for Malkin and using him as one of their top line centers to bring them more juice as they chase a Stanley Cup.

On paper, this would be a fantastic move for Dallas, and given that their Stanley Cup window is wide open, getting Malkin with 1.5 years left on his deal to help them finally get over the hill would be a great move.

There's plenty of hurdles to clear to make that happen however, as the Penguins haven't yet made Malkin available and it's unclear who they would want in a deal in return if he did become available.

On top of that, the Stars need help on the right side of their defense, so they will need to make another addition, but if they could find a way to land Malkin and get Seguin healthy for the playoffs, watch out for the Dallas Stars.
