The Boston Bruins aren't off to a hot start like we've become accustomed too, and now it appears they're looking to make a chance to turn it around.

Despite being 8-7-2 through their first 17 games, it's safe to say that after dominating the regular season over the past few years, the Boston Bruins have fallen short of expectations thus far.

Perhaps the biggest reason for this is their offensive struggles, with the team averaging just 2.53 goals per game, ranking them 25th in the entire NHL in scoring.

Now, reports have unsurprisingly emerged that the team are looking to do something to change that, with reporter Jimmy Murphy revealing that they are targeting a top-six forward to potentially change their fortunes.

"It's no secret that he wants a scoring winger for the top-6, but don't be surprised if he snags another top-6 center. Are we talking about a legit No. 1 center? Probably not because those are hard to find on the trade market, but maybe a 1B like they already have in (Elias) Lindholm.»

This report comes as no surprise given that they've scored just 16 goals in their last eight games, including being shut out twice, and with no one on the roster at a point-per-game pace this season, they need some help in a big way.

There's certainly options out there, with teams like Calgary, Anaheim, San Jose and Chicago all potentially having the pieces to move, and now it's up to GM Don Sweeney to be aggressive and pay the price needed to build a solid team.

With Head Coach Jim Montgomery on the hot seat through 17 games, the team can't wait until the trade deadline, because they simply can't rely on Jeremy Swayman every single night out, so expect to see them be aggressive in upgrading the team long before the trade deadline rolls around.
