Toronto Maple Leafs were forced to make an emergency call-up from the AHL as Max Pacioretty and Calle Jarnkrok's injuries persist.

Once again this season, the Maple Leafs' lineup has been hit by the injury bug. In addition to Calle Jarnkrok and Joseph Woll's training camp injuries, the Leafs lost Auston Matthews and Max Pacioretty to injuries as well.

While Woll returned, and Matthews is reportedly on the verge of coming back, Calle Jarnkrok and Max Pacioretty's conditions appear more serious.

Head coach Craig Berube shared an update on Jarnkrok a few days ago, saying the forward was still "ways away" from coming back. As for Pacioretty, he was placed on IR on a week-to-week status with a lower-body injury.

With all these players missing, the Leafs were poised to make a move to fill the hole in the lineup.

In breaking news, the Leafs organization announced that they've decided to call up Alex Steeves from the Marlies on an emergency basis:

Steeves, 24, took part in seven NHL games in his career and scored only one point in the big league. However, he's been having a lot of success in the AHL, scoring 57 points in 65 games last year. This season, he has 12 points in 10 games so far, after scoring six points over the weekend.

Interestingly, Steeves is now tied at the 2nd position for the Marlies' all-time scorers, per Kyle Cushman:

The Leafs will be back on the ice tonight to face the Ottawa Senators in another chapter of the Battle for Ontario. It'll be interesting to see if Steeves gets a shot in the lineup tonight, or if he has to wait tomorrow when the Leafs face the red-hot Washington Capitals.
