The former NHL tough guy Kelly Chase announced his heartbreaking diagnosis in a recent post on social media.

Kelly Chase, who played in the NHL between 1989 and 2000 for the St. Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers, and Toronto Maple Leafs was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia a year ago, in November 2023.

Since then, the ex-enforcer remained active on social media, cheering for the Blues, but hasn't talked much about his illness.

Chase shared an update on his situation yesterday. Indeed, the former enforcer confirmed that he's still battling Leukemia.

He added that he's thankful for everyone's support, and thankfully, has a brother with 100% bone marrow match.

Here's what he wrote on X:

I hesitated to say anything, but so many people are sending me notes so here goes . Yes I have a Round 2 with this punk called leukemia. With the support of these amazing Doctors at the Siteman Center and all my friends prayers and support, we are hoping for a similar outcome as Round 1. I am ready to fight again and have a brother with 100% bone marrow match. I truly am grateful for everyone reaching out. I got this.

In 458 career games in the NHL, Chase tallied 53 points, including 17 goals. However, he's mostly remembered for his whopping tally of 2017 penalty minutes.

In 27 playoff games, he added two points, including one goal, and 100 PIMs.

He never won the Stanley Cup, but did win a King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 1998, for his engagement in the community and leadership qualities on and off the ice.

We wish him the best in his battle against that horrible illness and we hope to see him back on his feet soon!
