The Boston Bruins have placed former first-round draft pick Max Jones on waivers as the team continues to tweak their roster after a slow start to the season.
The Bruins made another roster change recently when they added Tyler Johnson, who will start against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. That wasn't their last change.
Max Jones, a forward who agreed to a two-year contract for $1 million per year, was placed on waivers by the Boston Bruins today. His pay will no longer be deducted from the salary cap, regardless of whether he clears or is claimed by a team. It's possible that the second year of the contract may discourage any team from claiming him. We'll know whether he clears or gets claimed at 2:00 PM on Wednesday.
Prior to joining the Bruins in July of last year, Jones, 26, had participated in 258 NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks. However, he missed nearly all of camp after suffering a groin injury during the Black-and-Gold intrasquad scrimmage in Providence at the beginning of camp.
The Bruins' most encouraging development in their sluggish start to the season has been Cole Koepke, who came into camp and has blended well with left-wing Johnny Beecher and center Mark Kastelic on a fourth line.
After playing in four games for the Bruins, Max Jones struggled to establish himself. In Boston's heartbreaking 8-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes last Thursday, he was a minus-3, had taken four minor penalties, and failed to record a point.
