The New York Islanders have just announced the team is dealing with four terrible injuries to key players which is very tough to deal with going forward.

Things are not going right for the New York Islanders as their injury list continues to grow with more key players falling on the shelf. During last night's 4-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres, defensemen Alexander Romanov, Adam Pelech, and Mike Reilly left to the locker room after each took a hit on the ice.

First to show frustration in the group was Romanov, slamming his stick after what looked like yet another injury in his first game back following a three-game absence. A short while later, Adam Pelech took a puck to the face off a shot that was deflected off the face-off. But maybe most concerning of all, Mike Reilly's head hit the ice hard after a hit from Jordan Greenway. A stretcher was brought out as Reilly lay motionless for a moment before he sat up and talked to teammates as they helped him off the rink.

It looked for a while like the Islanders might finish the second half of the game with three defensemen, but Romanov returned from the tunnel. Pelech and Reilly did not, however, which forced the remaining four to log over 20 minutes each.

Already playing without Anthony Duclair for a few more weeks and having just found out Mat Barzal will be out for four to six weeks, the potential setbacks to the defense may be added now.

While Reilly will almost surely miss some games, the status of Romanov is still a question mark. It was announced that Pelech will miss four to six weeks as well. With the Islanders fighting for playoff position, they need a full roster so have recalled Grant Hutton and Samuel Bolduc from Bridgeport.
