The Toronto Maple Leafs struck gold with the signing of former Montreal Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty in free agency this summer.

Unfortunately, only a few weeks into his career with the Maple Leafs, he has suffered an injury, and has now been listed as day-to-day by head coach Craig Berube.

After nearly a decade in the Montreal Canadiens organization, spending several as captain, Max Pacioretty was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for Tomas Tatar, a second round pick, and now-Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki.

Pacioretty was ultimately dumped to the Carolina Hurricanes, where he suffered a major injury, and then signed with the Washington Capitals, where he was injured badly again.

As a free agent this season, MaxPacioretty opted to sign with the Montreal Canadiens' arch-rival, on a one-year deal. He got off to a strong start, but was injured against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Hopefully he can stay mostly healthy this season after ACL issues in both of the past two seasons.

While he is day-to-day for now, with the depth on the Toronto Maple Leafs (having players such as David Kampf and Timothy Liljegren scratched), the team will likely not miss Pacioretty too much, despite a six to two loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who they were expected to beat easily. Under new head coach Craig Berube, there have been some growing pains, but the team looks built much better for a playoff run this season.

Whether or not the team can surpass their playoff demons is unknown, but with veteran presences from Pacioretty, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Chris Tanev, things are looking good.
