This past week, John Tavares missed a game for the Maple Leafs with illness, and now it may be spreading as William Nylander misses practice for the same reason.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have started their 2024/25 season with two wins and a loss through three games, but now, it appears they may be struggling with an illness issue. John Tavares has already missed a game due to illness, and on Tuesday morning, it was officially revealed that William Nylander would also miss practice due to the same illness.

Unfortunately for the team, Craig Berube revealed that the issue is going through the locker room, and while no one else is currently bad enough to miss a skate or even a game, it's a worrying sign this early in the season. The positive news for Toronto is that they now have the depth to cover this sort of issue, with Max Pacioretty, Pontus Holmberg and Bobby McMann all playing their part to cover the current illness that still has John Tavares out of the lineup.

Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be a serious illness for anyone thus far, and while it may cost Toronto some players for a short stretch, more than a few players are managing to push through their current issues.

«We've had more guys [sick] too, but they were able to keep going,» Berube added. «We've got to watch for it. But it was great to see [Tavares] out there today and he got through practice. It looked like he was low-energy, but he's a good pro, got out, had a sweat and I'm sure he'll feel better later.»

Ultimately, this isn't going to be a long-term issue for the Maple Leafs, but it may take more than a few days for the illness to pass through the locker room and be gone completely, so keep a very close eye on the injury designation of many players over the coming few days.
