The New York Rangers have been on the cusp for years now, and according to Jacob Trouba, this may be their last shot with this current core.

For the past three years, the New York Rangers have been so close to pushing through the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but for one reason or another, they just keep falling short. With a core led by Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, Adam Fox, Artemi Panarin and captain Jacob Trouba, the talent is no doubt there, but when the biggest moments arrive, the team just can't get it done.

That was a topic brought up to Trouba in his first interview of the off-season, and shockingly, he admits this could be the last run for this core.

«In all likelihood this will probably be the last crack for this core. I don't think it's a secret by any means.»

While it may be true, this isn't the type of thing that is often directly addressed by players, especially not a captain of one of the NHL's biggest teams, but after many trade rumours this summer, it's not as shocking to hear Trouba being blunt about the situation. The Eastern Conference remains stacked, but with the Rangers having top tier talent on every level, they have a team to compete, and if their biggest names come up clutch in the post-season, they can no doubt get the job done.

If not, it's hard to deny Trouba's claim, as the team could potentially look to move on from one or more of their top names, but to hear a captain talk this way about his team so early into training camp is certainly intriguing, and will be a story to keep an eye on.
