In a recent podcast interview former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Cody Ceci opened up about his feelings after being traded to the San Jose Sharks.

The Edmonton Oilers came as close as a team can to a Stanley Cup losing in heartbreaking fashion in Game 7 to the Florida Panthers.
With the season over GM Ken Holland decided to step away from the game of hockey and new management took over. Since the change was made several big changes were made including a trade involving veteran defenseman Cody Ceci.
The trade was a way to try and clear salary cap space to be able to keep other players from the Edmonton Oilers core group. Since the trade the world had not heard from Cody Ceci regarding his thoughts on the move but recently that all changed.

Cody Ceci opens up about being traded by the Edmonton Oilers

In a new interview, Cody Ceci was asked about his offseason and in particular being traded. He was first asked if he was thinking about or expecting to be traded by the Edmonton Oilers after making a Stanley Cup Finals run.
When you go that far the only thing on your mind is getting back. Then you start to see the rumors going around that they have to make it work with the cap. You definitely want to be a part of it if you can.

Cody Ceci then continued and confirmed despite his disappointment of not being with the Oilers anymore you have to move forward. That is now what he is doing in embracing a new situation.
When another opportunity comes along you have to move on and embrace it.
Now Cody Ceci will go to the worst team in the NHL from last season the San Jose Sharks. Despite that sounding bleak he will have an opportunity to be a leader of a young group including future stars like Macklin Celebrini, William Eklund, and Will Smith.
When Cody Ceci returns to Edmonton during the 2024-25 NHL season it will be interesting to see how he is treated by the fans after the comments he has now made.
