In a miraculous triumph over tragedy, survivor of the horrific Humboldt Broncos crash Jacob Wasserman is set to represent Canada in the upcoming Paralympics.

Hockey can be a rough and brutal sport at times, but tragedy strikes most when they least expect it, and off the ice. this was true on a day that lives in infamy for hockey fans everywhere: April 6, 2018. 16 people, mostly members of the Humboldt Broncos of the SJHL, perished and 13 were injured in a crash as a result of a truck driver's carelessness. It took more than three years for all of the surviving team members to reunite.

Now, more than six years after the incident, one survivor is just a day away from making a big comeback in athletics. Forner Humboldt Broncos goaltender Jacob Wasserman will represent Canada in the 2024 Paralympics in the rowing category, a sport he got into as a workout instead of a competition.
"The fact that I've been able to get this far and be able to go out there is a pretty big accomplishment in my book already[...]
You gotta be a little bit crazy, I think, to be a rower; to enjoy some of the pain that comes with it, but it's a bit of a thrill to be out there and on the water and doing things that I wasn't doing before I was injured. I wouldn't have been able to do something like this before."
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games begin tomorrow, August 28th, and end on September 8th. Jacob Wasserman will compete in the Men's Single Sculls Heats, which run from August 30th through September 1st, starting at 4:10 A.M. EST. Regardless of the competition's outcomes, he is sure to make Canada proud.
