The Washington Capitals are in an incredibly interesting spot right now as a franchise, as they enter Alex Ovechkin's twilight career years.

The team had an incredibly fruitful off-season, swapping LTIR-bound Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie with a massive trade for Pierre-Luc Dubois (in exchange for Darcy Kuemper), a move for Andrew Mangiapane, a sneakily smart trade for Logan Thompson, and the signing of Nicolas Roy. The Washington Capitals made the playoffs last season, but will look to make more of an impact this season as Alex Ovechkin sits a mere 42 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time record.
Unfortunately, the team has suffered a setback as key defenseman Martin Fehervary has been hit with an injury ahead of the Olympic qualifiers. With the season starting in just over a month, injuries are extremely concerning, especially for such an underratedly important piece.
"I would like to play (in the qualifier). I'm still a little bit dealing with some health issues, but we'll see how the thing's going. So far it looks good. Nothing major. I'm practicing, but it's before the season and we talked with the Caps and if I'm not going to be 100 percent, I shouldn't go. So we'll see."

Even if Fehervary was 100%, there is a major trend this off-season of players not attending the Olympic qualifiers as they are simply too close to the regular season.
Do you think the Washington Capitals have done enough this off-season, or are they just trying to save a sinking boat?
