In breaking news, the Nashville Predators traded the goaltender Yaroslav Askarov to Western Conference rebuilder San Jose Sharks.

Earlier in the offseason, many reports confirmed that Askarov wasn't interested in playing another season in the AHL. He seeked a trade to his general manager Barry Trotz following Juuse Saros' eight-year contract signature.

Elliotte Friedman was the first one to share the news on X:

Friedman also shared that other teams were in the mix to acquire the young and promising goalie, such as the Montreal Canadiens and the New Jersey Devils:

Later, the Predators released an official statement, confirming the full details of the deal with the Sharks:

"Nashville, Tenn. (August 23, 2024) - Nashville Predators General Manager Barry Trotz announced today that the team has acquired forward David Edstrom, goaltender Magnus Chrona and the Vegas Golden Knights' first-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft (conditional) from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for goaltender Yaroslav Askarov, forward Nolan Burke and Colorado's third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

In the event Vegas' first-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft, previously acquired by San Jose, falls within the Top 10, San Jose has the right to transfer either its first-round pick or Vegas' to Nashville."

Askarov, 22, is a 6′3″ goalie drafted 11th overall by the Predators in 2020. In three career games in the NHL, he only won one game, but has a 2.58 GAA and a
.914 save percentage.

With a lot of young talent emerging in San Jose, such as Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith and now Askarov, the Sharks' rebuilding could very well be a lot faster than most fans and experts could've predicted.

Updates will follow.
