Boston Bruins hockey hall of famer tragically passes away
The game of hockey owes so much to many people, both on and off the ice, and now the NHL are mourning the passing of an iconic Hall of Famer.
Over the past 100 years, hockey has seen so many important people come through the sport, and on Tuesday, we are now mourning the passing of one of those players in former Blackhawks and Bruins player and executive Murray Costello.
Costello had a short career in the NHL as a player with Chicago, Boston and Detroit, but it was his work off the ice that drew him plenty of acclaim, and now many around the hockey community are in mourning.
"Additionally, Canada's success at the world junior level is a direct result of Costello's vision in the early 80's to establish a program of excellence that would produce 10 gold medals during his tenure as President of Hockey Canada from 1979 to 1998, including five straight from 1993 to 1997. We send our deepest condolences to Costello's family and many friends in the game all over the world."
While players are key to the building of the NHL, it's everyone from executives to coaches and beyond that have built the league into what it is, and it's safe to say that Costello left the hockey world in a much better place than he found it. Rest in Peace to Murray Costello.
