Darnell Nurse emerges in trade talks: blockbuster imminent?
Darnell Nurse's contract is one of the worst in the NHL, but this off-season, it appears he will be high on some teams trade list.
Two years ago, the Edmonton Oilers inked Darnell Nurse to what many considered as a reasonable contract, but since that point, his play has gone downhill more and more. In 2023/24, Nurse tallied 10 goals and 32 points in one of the most talented lineups in the NHL, but given their salary cap squeeze, it makes sense for them to move on.
Now, NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has listed Nurse among those to watch as potential trade candidates moving forward this off-season after a red-hot start to free agency.
Over the next six years, Nurse will earn $9.25 million per season, making his contract a very tough one to move, but if the Oilers can retain some of that and add an asset or two to the deal, there may be teams out there ready to bite.
It's unclear just what teams would be interested in Nurse, with teams like the Sharks, Ducks and Flames all having significant cap space, but given Seravalli's connections to the Oilers, this could be hinting at a big trade coming soon.
