Brad Treliving may be looking to move on from defenseman Timothy Liljegren according to new reports, and the Maple Leafs may already have a trade partner lined up.

The 25-year-old blueliner had a respectable season for the Leafs this year, potting 3 goals and adding 20 helpers to match his career high of 23 points in just 55 games. He added a single assist and was rated a -1 in six playoff games against the Boston Bruins. He has had a tenuous relationship with the Leafs over the past few seasons, frequently being a healthy scratch and playing a small role even when he was in the lineup. This changed to an extent this season as he saw a significant jump in ice time but it still feels like the team is not fully sold on him. As such, it makes sense that they might want to move on from him.

Toronto is interested in trading Timothy Liljegren according to @mathewjdp. I always liked Liljegren. He's an underrated all-around defenseman in my eyes. I believe he's capable to play in 2nd defensive pair on the Stanley Cup contender team.

That being said, the team still needs help on the blueline, and trading Liljegren only furthers that problem unless they are getting a defenseman in return. It sounds like that might be exactly what is happening though as the team is rumored to be negotiating a deal with the San Jose Sharks involving Mario Ferraro.

Trade between San Jose and #leafsforever is close involving Ferraro and Liljegren

The Leafs were reportedly interested in Ferraro at the trade deadline and those rumors picked up again in the offseason. However, it seems as though they have sense moved on. Yet, it would not be particularly surprising to see the team circle back on Ferraro, especially if they are looking to move a defenseman of their own. Sharks general manager Mike Grier has made it clear that the asking price for Ferraro is quite high though, so the Leafs may very well need to add in more assets to get a deal done. Be sure to stay tuned over the coming days to see if this deal comes to fruition.
