Jacob Trouba is one of the most controversial players in the NHL for a reason - his dirty physical style often causing injuries. Unfortunately, it also caused one to himself.

The New York Rangers' season is over, losing in six games to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Final, and missing out on making the Stanley Cup Finals, and now excuses are starting to pour in.

Captain Jacob Trouba came clean today about a debilitating injury he suffered during the regular season - a broken ankle, where a big chunk came off:

#NYR captain Jacob Trouba said the injury he sustained earlier in the season was a broken ankle, «a big chunk of his ankle came off.»

Since it wasn't a weight-bearing bone, he was mostly okay, but skating did not feel good.

Unfortunately, these comments haven't gone over well with New York Rangers fans - who are furious with him for rushing to return to play despite being in terrible shape.

Jacob Trouba saw the Rangers go 12-2 and play their best defense of the season while he was out and said

«Let me rush back with 1 ankle and fix this»

And he's supposed to be our captain?!?!

Anyone else infuriated???

#NYR

Trouba clearly wasn't himself in these playoffs, being a liability every time he stepped on the ice. If he had let himself recover, maybe Rangers fans would still be cheering their team on right now.
