Max Domi became a fan favourite with the Toronto Maple Leafs this past season, but surprisingly, he may not remain beyond this off-season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs found two favourites this past season, with veterans Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi both contributing massively to this teams success. Early in the off-season, it appeared as though Toronto were the favourites to retain both players this summer;

The feeling is mutual on Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi re-signing with the Leafs

Famed Maple Leafs reporter Steve Simmons sees things differently however, as his recent report revealed that Toronto won't be able to offer Domi everything he can get, and it could lead to his surprise departure.

If I were Max Domi and I wanted to stay with the Leafs, I'd find myself a new agent. The numbers being floated around for Domi don't fit what the Leafs will be looking at.

The 29-year old tallied 9 goals and 47 points in his first season with the team his father starred for years ago, but it appears all of the good will built up on both sides may not be enough alone to retain him. It's unclear whether or not Toronto would be looking at another short-term deal for Domi or a long-term contract, but given that he's about to hit his 30's, he may enjoy long-term security over whatever Toronto may offer.

Free agency is set to begin on July 1st, and with many decisions to make this summer, it may be the deals of both Domi and Bertuzzi that dictate what Toronto can do going forward.
