The New York Rangers' Jacob Trouba has opened up on his $5000 fine for a nasty elbow on Evan Rodrigues of the Florida Panthers in game 3 of the ECF

While many thought the punishment should have been much harsher, Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers managed to escape an elbow to the face of Evan Rodrigues of the Florida Panthers with a minor penalty and a $5000 fine. Now, the Rangers captain is sharing his thoughts on the situation.
"NY Rangers' Jacob Trouba has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for elbowing Florida's Evan Rodrigues.
Trouba was asked about the incident today with reporters, and admitted that he has to take more care when trying to hit opponents. Trouba seemed to be ok with the fine.
"NYR captain Jacob Trouba on the elbow play he was fined for:

'It all happened pretty fast. It's not something you're thinking about 1,000 times over and over again. I think it just happens fast, it's hockey.'

No. 8 added that he has to be more disciplined."
Many are wondering if the fine is an admission by the NHL's Department of Player Safety that there should have been a major penalty called on Trouba. DoPS has said nothing further on the situation other than announcing the fine. As for Panthers head coach Paul Maurice, he had a usual sarcastic response to Trouba forfeiting $5000 in salary.
"Take the hat, pass it around. Poor lad. Poor Jake. He won't be able to eat."
Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final takes place Tuesday night in Miami. The Rangers currently lead the series 2-1. This series will likely only get more heated as it goes along, with both teams ready to lay it all on the line for a shot at the Stanley Cup.
