After their loss in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the Carolina Hurricanes are focused on that future and now their future seems to not include key forward Martin Necas.

Reports have indicated that the Carolina Hurricanes are going to be undergoing a lot of changes this summer. Defenseman Brett Pesce is not expected to sign an extension. Now a new report has indicated Martin Necas will also not receive a contract extension from the Hurricanes.

The Hurricanes are not expected to sign Brett Pesce and Martin Necas to new contracts.

Martin Necas is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer. His dad said in a recent interview he does not expect his son to be back with the Carolina Hurricanes next season.

I'll be very surprised if Martin Necas plays for Carolina in the next season. As his dad said, Martin wants to play in 1st line & 1st PP unit. His dad even said in an interview for @DenikSport: ,,Martin wants to be traded.» In my eyes, Necas is a great offensive winger.

His restricted free-agent status could be a major advantage for the Carolina Hurricanes to help them get something back for him. While the team is actively not trying to re-sign Martin Necas they could still match any offer sent his way assuming they qualify him. This would also allow the Carolina Hurricanes to explore trades involving Martin Necas as well.

As the offseason begins it will be fun to see if Martin Necas' name comes up in more trade reports. A team could also try to get back at the Hurricanes for offer sheeting Jesperi Kotkaniemi and return the favor offer sheeting Martin Necas.
