Jon Cooper is one of the most well-respected people in hockey, thanks to his success as head coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning, and his overall demeanour.

Unfortunately, even the best of people can make mistakes, and Jon Cooper made a big one after the Tampa Bay Lightning were eliminated at the hands of the Florida Panthers.

His comments after the loss, where he has been flamed for demeaning women, were as such:

"We might has well put skirts on them then... I think we're letting the goalies off the hook."

Jon Cooper went full South Park Sarcastaball. The goalie interference calls are getting out of hand.

Today, he has issued a heartfelt apology for his remarks:

Jon Cooper opened his press conference by apologizing for his goalies wearing skirts comments. «Quite frankly, it was wrong.» Said it has pained him more than the series loss. Especially with daughters at home. Wishes he could go back in time and take it back.

It is shocking to hear that this affected him more than losing the series; every mistake like this is highlighted in a massive way on social media.

Jon Cooper opens his presser addressing the «girls in skirts» comment from Monday night.

He says this has been harder than the loss. #GoBolts

Luckily for Jon Cooper, he did not face any consequences for his employment. He signed an extension today to stay with the Tampa Bay Lightning for two more years.

I'm told #GoBolts HC Jon Cooper had signed an extension and is under contract through the 2025-26 season.

It is clear that Jon Cooper is very sorry for his actions. Hopefully he will learn for the better and not make a mistake like this again.
