The San Jose Sharks struggled through much of 2023-24, but with such a talented young core, it makes sense for them to move on from some veterans.

After a poor year, the San Jose Sharks have the best odds at landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, and it's clear the direction this team is headed. Now, General Manager Mike Grier has revealed that Mike Hoffman and two other contributors to their team in Kevin Labanc and Alexander Barabanov will officially walk in free agency this summer.

Grier says he'll let Barabanov, Hoffman and Labanc walk as free agents

With the likes of Will Smith, Quentin Musty and David Edstrom all on the way, it makes sense for the Sharks to open up some spots, but ahead of free agency and the summer, this move allows them more cap space that could let them be flexible with taking on contracts and assets in trades.

It's going to be quite some time until the Sharks make a playoff push, so letting veterans like this move on is a great move and it's clear that Grier and this front office have a very clear plan moving forward.
