After being called up to the Montreal Canadiens of the NHL last night, controversial prospect Logan Mailloux has been cleared to play in the league.

The 2021 31st overall pick was involved in a major scandal in his draft year, and faced criminal charges in Sweden. Despite asking not to be drafted, the Canadiens' old regime of management led by Marc Bergevin took him in the first round.

Now, just about three years later, and coming off a phenomenal AHL season, the Montreal Canadiens have decided to let him play in their final game of the season, but this meant the NHL would have to clear him due to agreements made following his draft.

The NHL and Gary Bettman has opted to clear Mailloux, and has released this statement:

"We have met with Logan Mailloux multiple times over the course of the last eight to 10 months. We are comfortable that he recognizes the gravity of his prior conduct and is committed to making better and more responsible decisions in the future. He has been cleared to participate in National Hockey League play."

Fan reactions vary, from excitement to disgust. We hope that Logan Mailloux has addressed his character issues and has taken steps towards earning forgiveness from the victim of his crime in Sweden. Now, it is time for him to grace NHL ice for the first time.
