The Toronto Maple Leafs broke news today that Matt Murray is getting close to a potential return, as he was sent to the Toronto Marlies on a conditioning stint.

Matt Murray has been on LTIR for the Toronto Maple Leafs for the entirety of the season, after undergoing surgery for a lower-body injury. The Leafs have not been in any particular rush to get him back, as they had three NHL calibre goaltenders in Ilya Samsonov, Joseph Woll, and Martin Jones already in their lineup.

However, Murray has been quietly getting healthier throughout the course of the season, and now made a major move to return to play. The Toronto Maple Leafs have loaned him to the Toronto Marlies of the AHL for a conditioning stint.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are gearing up to build on their success last season in the post-season, getting past the first round for the first time in decades. While it is unlikely that Murray will see any time with the Leafs, it is nice to have backup in the ranks.
