Speaking with the media Friday afternoon, Edmonton Oilers general manager (GM) Ken Holland was asked about the upcoming trade deadline and what moves, if any, he would like to make happen.

While the longtime NHL GM made it clear he is happy with his current roster, he did admit that it is tempting to bring in help. Holland appears set on acquiring a forward for his team, though made it clear if he does make a move it will not be to shore up depth, which he believes they already have enough of. If there is a player brought in, he wants it to be one who will make a big impact.

«I'm not looking for depth,» Holland said. «Last year I made a couple of moves for depth. I don't think we need depth. If there's a player out there that can go into our lineup and have an impact more than depth, (that's) probably that would be something I would look at.»

Holland also appears to be happy with the blueline he currently has, and for good reason. As he mentioned today, the team's depth on the back end is better than it has been in a long time, as they currently possess many bodies who are capable of an every day role.

During the media avail, Holland also discussed the possibility of Dylan Holloway making his NHL debut later this season, something that he didn't rule out, and also the current status of contract negotiations with pending unrestricted free agent Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. While he said both sides would like to get a deal done, he acknowledged it may be tough given the flat cap for next season.

Holland's Oilers currently sit third place in the North Division with 34 points through 28 games. This is the second year in a row that they have had regular season success, something Holland deserves a ton of praise for given the tough situation he was handed after the disaster that was Peter Chiarelli. The Oilers will look to improve their record tonight as they get ready to take on the struggling Ottawa Senators.
