It appears the Arizona Coyotes are officially done for now, and it certainly hasn't been taken well by Arizona native Matthew Knies.

Wednesday was a whirlwind of emotion for so many people in Arizona, but not only did the news effect current players and their families, but also NHL players from the area. The most famous of whom is Auston Matthews, but teammate Matthew Knies also comes from the area, and now he's made a very emotional statement on the impending departure of the Coyotes.

TORONTO - Maple Leafs forward Matthew Knies lets out a sigh as he sinks into his stall following Thursday's morning skate.
Yes, the proud Phoenix native has caught wind of reports that his beloved Arizona Coyotes could be relocating to Utah as early as next season.
"Not too happy with the situation," Knies says. "It's pretty unfortunate. The Coyotes did a lot for me growing up, and I loved going to the games. It was a big reason as to why I got into hockey. But that kind of situation is out of my control. I'm hopeful that they can stay there, because it meant a lot to me, but I guess we're gonna have to see what happens."

While it was definitely a long time coming and a move the NHL needed to force, it certainly hurts a lot of people that grew up with this team, and this outpouring of love shows just how incompetent the ownership group has been. Nothing is confirmed yet, but if it does indeed go through, we can safely assume that neither Knies or Matthews will be headed home to play hockey in their careers.
