When Mike Babcock was fired as coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs back in November of 2019, no one was happier than former NHLer Mike Commodore. Commodore played under Babcock twice, once in Anaheim and again in Detroit, and has made his feelings on him very public, calling him a terrible human being and an "arrogant prick" with an "oversized ego."

Commodore believes Babcock lied in the media while the two were with the Anaheim Ducks when he told reporters Commodore showed up to camp out of shape, adding Babcock refused to play him in favour of new addition Kurt Sauer. He also claims Babcock promised to play him when he signed in Detroit as a free agent in 2011. Commodore spent most of the season as a healthy scratch, playing in just 17 games before being shipped to Tampa Bay at the trade deadline.

"The bottom line is you've gotta be good enough to play to get in the lineup," said Babcock when asked about Commodore on the Cam and Strick Podcast.

"If you don't get to play, it's not because the coach doesn't like you, it's because he doesn't think you can help him win that night. Give me a break. If you think any coach on the National Hockey League is doing something to make a point versus win, you're sadly mistaken," Babcock continued.

Babcock insisted on the podcast that any decision he made on Commodore while he was coaching him was not personal in any way and had everything to do with what he felt would help the team win on any given night.

"Doesn't matter what his name is, doesn't matter how great your relationship with him is," said Babcock. "And the same thing goes on night in, night out in the National Hockey League.

Commodore has yet to respond to anything said in the latest interview with Babcock, although it's almost certain it would not be a positive response. His response to Babcock being hired by The NHL on NBC as an in-studio analyst is a good indication of where he stands.

"Good evening Folks....who is doing the hiring @NHLonNBCSports?," asked Commodore. "Hiring Babcock the Bully and giving him a platform so he can spread his lies on his «rehab my image» tour is shameful...get him off the air."
