Flyers Captain Sean Couturier Lashes Out at John Tortorella After Being Healthy Scratched
If anyone thought Philadelphia Flyers captain Sean Couturier would be ok with being made a healthy scratch by head coach John Tortorella, they were wrong. Couturier is lashing out, saying he doesn't like the way he's being treated.
Couturier Unhappy with Tortorella's Latest Decision
After a stretch of games where Couturier saw his ice-time drop considerably, it was announced he'd be sitting on the sidelines for tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Asked about the decision, Couturier made it clear he was not fine with it.
Flyers Captain Not at All Happy with Being Made a Healthy Scratch
Tortorella is well-known for holding his players accountable regardless of their status. Star players are treated the same as fringe NHLers, and can expect to be taken to task when they aren't playing at the level they should be. Still, there's a risk involved. However, Flyers GM Danny Briere had no issue with Tortorella's decision.
The Flyers have had a surprisingly good seasons under Tortorella. The team was seemingly in rebuild mode when the 2023-24 seasons began, with very few analysts expecting the Flyers to make a playoffs push. With Torts at the reins, Philadelphia is in third place in the Metropolitan Division with 14 games left to go in the regular season.
Couturier was named captain of the Flyers just a little over a month ago after missing the entire 2022-23 season to deal with back surgery and recovery.
