The Colorado Avalanche made a major trade with the Flyers this year as they added another key defenseman to their roster.

Avalanche Acquire Walker From Flyers In Exchange For Johansen, Draft Pick

The team wanted to bolster their blueline after dealing Bowen Byram in a separate trade to the Buffalo Sabres. They did exactly that when they acquired Sean Walker from the Flyers. Going the other way was the team's 1st round pick in 2025 as well as center Ryan Johansen.

Johansen was largely part of the deal as a cap dump. The Avalanche needed to move him in order to get away from his contract. Importantly, they did not retain any salary. Now the 31-year-old faces a tough decision.

Johansen Considering Not Reporting With Flyers, Jeopardizing Contract

The veteran center was placed on waivers as soon as the Flyers acquired him. The team has made it clear that he is not part of their long-term plans. However, the ball is now in his court as he could elect not to report to Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League. According to reports, this is exactly when he is considering doing.

It appears that Ryan Johansen is dealing with injuries and it is still unclear if he'll report to LV - something seemingly out of left field.

Johansen is a buyout candidate this summer (if healthy). Injured players cannot be bought out.

Johansen has 13 goals and 23 points this season in 61 games with the Avalanche. He has 202 career goals and 578 career points across 909 career NHL games split between the Avs, Preds, and Blue Jackets. Whether or not he plays with the Flyers remains a question. At this point, this could be the end of his NHL career.

As seen on Philadelphia Flyers newest addition may refuse to report to the team
