The New York Islanders have managed to stay in the playoff hunt all season despite overall poor play, and now, General Manager Lou Lamiorello has made one of the worst decisions of his career.

New York Islanders to be buyers at the deadline?

Despite being just 26-20-14 on the season with six point separating themselves and the final Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference, the veteran GM is in buyers mode.
Islanders are ready to be buyers at deadline according to Lou
The team are blessed with talents like Noah Dobson, Bo Horvat, Ilya Sororkin and Mat Barzal, but beyond that, the depth is certainly lacking, with many around the league believing that they'd either stand pat or sell ahead of the March 8 trade deadline.

Who will the Islanders target at the deadline?

It's unclear at this point who the team are looking to buy ahead of the deadline, with blue line help and an elite forward likely being their biggest target. Unfortunately, there's not much of either available, and unless they will overpay for the likes of Noah Hanifin, Jake Guentzel or Pavel Buchenevich, it's very unclear who they will target.
Ultimately, this feels like a GM at the end of his tenure making one last push to get into the playoffs and see what will happen, but for now, it's safe to say that it's not the wisest decision for the future of the organization.
