Matt Murray was not the starter for the Ottawa Senators against the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night, but he had to end up entering the game anyway. Marcus Hogberg started between the pipes for the Sens but left the game in the first period with an injury, meaning Murray had to come in. It did not go well. Murray let in six goals on 26 shots in Ottawa's 7-3 loss and was more than willing to take the blame after the game had ended.

"Bottom line, this one's on me," Murray told The Athletic's Ian Mendes.

"For sure, it's tough going in like that, but that's not an excuse. I think I could have done a better job and given us a chance to win," Murray continued.

Murray is currently the seventh highest paid goaltender in the league with an annual cap hit of $6.25 million. While it's not a huge surprise that his numbers aren't phenomenal given that he's playing on a rebuilding team, Murray stats definitely leave something to be desired with a 3.82 goals against average and a .878 save percentage in 14 games this season. At one point Thursday night, Murray had allowed four goals on seven shots for a save percentage of .428.

Ottawa can only hope that Murray finds his game soon as he's currently on year one of a four year contract signed during the offseason after a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
