It isn't easy to make history with a team that's been around as long as the Toronto Maple Leafs, but 41-year-old Joe Thornton has done it. In Toronto's 7-3 win over Ottawa Thursday night, Thornton had a goal and two assists for three points, making him the oldest player in Leafs' history to score three or more points in one game.

"Joe Thornton (41 years, 231 days) is the oldest player in Maple Leafs history to record three or more points in a regular-season game," said the league in a statement on Twitter. "Carl Brewer (41 years, 78 days) had previously held the distinction."

Brewer set that record way back in the 1979-80 season when he played 20 games with Toronto.

Despite losing some time to injury, Thornton has been fitting in very well with a young Leafs team as is currently a point-per-game player with three goals and five assists in eight games. If he can continue at this pace, Thornton could end up breaking some other records involving age before the season ends. For a player making the league minimum of $700,000 this season, he's sure looking like a great signing for Leafs' GM Kyle Dubas.
