The whole thing started innocently enough, as blow ups on social media usually do, with the official Twitter account of the Leafs Lunch on TSN 1050 in Toronto posting its lineup for Thursday that included Dreger appearing on the program.
Coming up today on #LeafsLunch with @AndiPetrillo and @CraigJButton, don't miss @DarrenDreger, @JTBrown23 and @Jason_Strudwick!

It didn't take long for someone to start complaining, with a Twitter user calling the program "the most ridiculous show on TSN." When someone pointed out that no one was forcing him to listen to it, the user took aim at the host of the show Andi Petrillo.
"She needs to move on," said the user. "Like straight up, I hear TSN is going to do another sweep across the company. I hope she is one of them."
That statement rubbed Dreger the wrong way and he was quick to fire back.
"Hey Tim," said Dreger. "Do us all a favour and take your ignorant nonsense somewhere else. Andi is a devoted and incredibly hardworking teammate. To encourage she, or others lose their job is disgusting. Buzz off."

Again, the calling for a co-worker to be fired likely hit a sore spot for Dreger as he watched many colleagues being shown the door since 2021 started, including Sportscentre host Dan O'Toole, veteran reporter Brent Wallace and reporter/anchor Natasha Staniszewski, as well as many behind-the-scenes people. Dreger's statement was mostly well received, but not without some detractors, with one response stating media are the "most self important people out there."
