Absolutely terrible news for Andrew Shaw of the Chicago Blackhawks. Head coach Jeremy Colliton has confirmed that Shaw, who missed almost all of last season to recover from previous concussion issues, is back in concussion protocol.

"I feel for Shawzy," said Colliton, whose own playing career was cut short due to concussions.

Colliton said Shaw was elbowed in the face in Tuesday's game against Dallas, a play that went uncalled. Colliton said the situation is «hard to swallow.»

"Not much to say about it," said Colliton. "We've got to professionally do our job and come in here and play hard. We have a good thing going but we have to earn it every day. Part of it is doing it without your full group. We have to do both: feel for Shawzy and get it done anyway."

Shaw played just 26 games last season before deciding to step away in order to recover from several concussions he's had over his playing career. The exact number isn't known. Howeer, just earlier this week he talked about how good it was to be back and how good he felt.

"Love it," Shaw said. "I love being at home with my family, but in that circumstance, it was obviously tough. Coming back from the injury, rehab, getting back into shape, it was tough. It was a long year, but all worth it. It's great to be back with the guys. Being in the room is a lot of fun, obviously. Being on the road with the guys is one of the best parts of hockey. It's good to be back. I'm sure I've annoyed people already, but whatever."

Chicago has been hit hard by injuries this season. Jonathan Toews, Kirby Dach, Alex Nylander and Brent Seabrook are all on long-term injured reserve. Joining Shaw as a recent addition to the injured list is Connor Murphy, who is expected to miss 10-14 days with a right hip injury.
