Today some breaking news has come in regarding the eventual retirement of hockey icon Alex Ovechkin. A new interview has provided a timeline for the end of his illustrious career.

Ovechkin Reveals When He Will Call It A Career

In a new interview with a Russian news source Alex Ovechkin talked about the subject of retirement. In the interview, the journalist Igor Rabiner asked Ovechkin if he thinks he will retire after his current contract. Ovechkin gave a never before heard answer about the future of his career.

Rabiner explicitly asked the big winger if he thinks he will be done with professional hockey after his current deal with the Capitals runs up.

«I think, yes,» Ovechkin said as translated via Google Translate.

This is the second time that Ovechkin has mentioned retirement this season. Earlier in the year when talking to American media Ovechkin said that he would retire once he stopped enjoying the game.

«Still enjoy it,» Ovechkin said in October. «As soon as I'm not going to enjoy it, it's probably not right for me to stay here and play the game the way I wanted to play.»

With the new admission from Ovechkin that this contract might be it for him in the NHL, he now has started a two-and-a-half season clock until retirement. This also means he has that period of time to beat Wayne Gretzky's goal record.

If Ovechkin does not break the record in this time period it will be interesting to see if he will consider extending his career.
