The line between professional sports athletes and celebrities often gets blurred. Popular players can get barraged by fans, while reporters tend to try and go deep into their personal lives. There needs to be a line, and many think this question to Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki.

Montreal Canadiens Captain Gets Asked Very Personal Question

A video posted to social media shows Suzuki and long-time girlfriend Caitlin Fitzgerald at an event in Montreal. The two have never made their relationship a secret, and they are a well-known couple in NHL circles. While both were being interviewed by Montreal media at the event, one reporter asked how long to two had been together. That was followed up with a question that seemed far too personal.

"So, next step is it to have your own children?"

Suzuki and Fitzgerald both seemed a bit surprised by the question, but did take the time to give an answer anyway.

Fitzgerald: "Eventually."

Suzuki: "Eventually, yeah, for sure."

Fitzgerald: "We have two cats so they keep us tide over for now."

Reporter Getting Backlash Online for Tasteless Question to Habs Captain

First of all, who even knows if the young couple has discussed this issue among themselves. Imagine having not had that decision with a partner, and having to try and figure out how to answer it. Secondly, this question can be a real heartbreaker for some if they'd had difficulty conceiving.

"NO. Imagine if they were trying to have kids and are unable to conceive OR don't want kids. This is not appropriate to ask. NEVER. You don't know their story and it's none of our business"

Hopefully, this is something that doesn't get asked again.
