Neither the Minnesota Wild nor the Pittsburgh Penguins have been off to a huge start in 2023-24, but now with the All-Star break looming, they've made an intriguing trade.

Will Butcher heads to the Wild

According to a report from NHL Insider Michael Russo, the Minnesota Wild have acquired defenseman Will Butcher, who is likely to begin his career with the Iowa Wild as a depth player.

In return for Butcher, the Penguins have reportedly acquired forward Maxim Cajkovic, who carries a cap hit of $925,000 for the remainder of this season.

The Penguins have acquired forward Maxim Cajkovic from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for defenseman Will Butcher.

Cajkovic is signed through the 2023.24 season and his contract carries an average annual value of $925,000 at the NHL level.

This is an interesting move for both teams who find themselves with new depth players, and while they ultimately won't decide the playoff fates for these teams in 2023-24, they could be very useful players down the stretch.
