The Arizona Coyotes have been one of the nice surprises in the NHL this season. While not many expected the team to be good this year, they have not so quietly put together their best season in years as they look to make the playoffs for the first time since the covid shortened season. Now there are signs that the team may be making a major move in the near future.

Coyotes Signal Major Trade By Benching Top Prospect In AHL

The Tucson roadrunners of the American Hockey League, Arizona's top affiliate, announced their lineup for tonight's game against the Chicago Wolves and there was one major absence. That player was Dylan Guenther, who the Coyotes drafted 9th overall in 2021.
Guenther is a point-per-game player in the AHL this season so there is no reason based on his play that he should be a scratch. Furthermore, he already has 33 games of NHL experience in which he scored 15 points, showing that he can be an effective player at that level.
Mike Gould of DailyFaceoff believes this move is a sign of the Coyotes making a move.
First, the Yotes waived Sanford. Then, they sent Kirkland back down.
And now, Dylan Guenther appears to be a healthy scratch in Tucson ...
Something be a-brewin'.
The Coyotes are currently right on the cusp of a playoff spot and they have games in hand on many of the teams competing with them for a wild card spot. Trading one of their best prospects at this point might seem like an unusual move, but the team could secure their first proper playoff experience in over a decade.
