As the trade deadline approaches, many teams will be forced to make some difficult roster decisions. The Pittsburgh Penguins are no different.

Penguins May Have to Trade Top Winger

Per Josh Yohe, it seems that the Penguins have not engaged in any contract talks yet with Jake Guentzel. His current contract is up this summer and he will likely be getting paid in free agency.

Guentzel has looked stellar this season and has led the Penguins in points with 35 points in 34 games.

Will the Penguins Move Guentzel

Obviously the first option for the Penguins would be to hang on to winger, but that may not be possible. With tight cap considerations and many predicting Guentzel to fetch up to $9 million on the open market.

If the Penguins don't look to be in the playoff hunt by the trade deadline, it's possible that Dubas could move Guentzel (a proven playoff performer) to a contender. This would allow him to help bolster the future and avoid the risk of him leaving in free agency.

Penguins fans will hope he sticks around as he is the preferred line mate of Crosby, but only time will tell.
