It was indeed a notable development in the NHL when Carolina Hurricanes' starting goalie Antti Raanta was placed on waivers yesterday, catching many by surprise.

Today, the news came in that Raanta went unclaimed through the NHL waivers. Given that the Hurricanes don't have an AHL affiliate, they had to find an AHL team for Raanta, which led to speculation about the Laval Rocket, the Montreal Canadiens' affiliate. The Rocket could have greatly benefited from a seasoned goaltender like Raanta.

Hurricanes Announce Final Decision

However, the Carolina Hurricanes have just announced that Raanta will be joining the Chicago Wolves (AHL) instead. This is a missed opportunity for the Rocket, as Raanta would have been a significant addition to their roster.

Raanta, 34, boasts a career .915 save percentage in the NHL and has accumulated 133 wins in 265 games. He earns $1.5 million this season. His experience and skill level would have been invaluable for any AHL team, and it's particularly unfortunate for the Rocket, who could have used a goalie of his caliber.
