The Edmonton Oilers are in a tricky situation in trying to move Jack Campbell's contract, and now the cost to do so has been revealed.

Cost to Move Campbell Revealed and It Will Take A Sweetner

The focal point of the Oilers' struggles has been between the cage and on defence, as they sent Jack Campbell down to the minors amidst his struggles. This immediately sparked speculation that the Oilers are looking to trade him.
However, Campbell's $5 million AAV, along with the Oilers' desperation, is a constraint in moving him. NHL insider Darren Dreger has revealed that it will cost the Oilers extra in order to move him.
Dreger went on to say in order to unload Campbell's contract (deal has to be money in/money out for it to work for Edmonton) he would have to add a 1st RD pick or Xavier Bourgault, he does not want to leave the new incoming GM in a bad situation.
Both options listed by Dreger are key pieces to the Oilers' future. If they trade that away and still don't manage to make the playoffs, they risk putting themselves in a bad position in the long term for nothing.

Oilers Have Looked To Montreal For Potential Trade

The Oilers are looking at all their options for a potential goalie trade, and one of those is Montreal. Montreal has 3 NHL calibre goaltenders on their roster. However, it has been reported that they also will require something additional if they are going to part ways with one of them for Edmonton.
According to @FriedgeHNIC, the Oilers have narrowed their interest in Habs goalies down to Primeau and Montembeault & have asked for clarity on Montembeault's contract extension talks. Should the Canadiens hold on to Monty and if not, what would you want in return ⬇️ ?
The Oilers are at a crossroads at this point in the season. They need to decide if they want to take the risk and push their chips in for this season, or if they want to play it safe and try to retain some of their long-term development.
