In a recent video, Sean Avery gave Connor McDavid a stern warning regarding the state of the Edmonton Oilers and how he feels McDavid should be acting.

Avery Comments on McDavid's Salary in Recent Comments on the State of the Edmonton Oilers

The terrible start for the Edmonton Oilers has everyone in Edmonton in full crisis mode, including hockey media. Fans and analysts are calling for head coach Jay Woodcroft to be fired, and some have speculated that McDavid is going to ask for a trade to get himself out.
Now, Sean Avery has taken to his podcast to call out McDavid and other Oilers superstars, saying that the blame should fall on their shoulders.
"Houston, we have a problem," he said in his latest media podcast. "But the problem is not in Houston, it's in Edmonton. Who's going to fix the problem? What do you want, to fire the coach and tell him to go get a tan somewhere? Send him to Cancun and recharge? Pay him to not coach? Blame Kenny Holland? Or do you want to just say that the buck stops with the big boys

Darnell Nurse makes $9 million a year. High and hard off the glass? Come on. Nick Lidstrom made $9 million a year, one of the greatest defenseman ever to play the game in the NHL. You got Connor McDavid at $12.5 million, Leon at $9 million and he doesn't even want to answer questions, and Connor looks like he's aged 30 years.

He's been through the god damn meat grinder of the Canadian media. And by the way, that's the job when you're the big superstar on the team. When you're the best player in the world and make $12.5 million a year, you gotta answer the bell."
Avery is right, one of the few downsides to being a superstar and making millions is that all eyes are on you to produce when it matters. Everyone is looking to the leader of the group to see how to respond, including the media.

Avery Delivers Stern Warning to McDavid About Winning a Cup

Avery topped off the monologue by delivering a stern warning to McDavid about how fans will portray him potentially leaving when things have gone downhill. He compares McDavid to Gretzky and notes how the great one was able to win 4 cups before leaving Edmonton.
"You gotta win games - otherwise, they're gonna turn on you," he said. "And I don't ever want to see a video of you crying because you're about to put an LA Kings jersey on. We want you to win a Stanley Cup. And by the way, before Wayne left, he won four."

It is full-blown crisis time in Edmonton right now, and rightly so, this start is completely unacceptable from a team that was slated to compete for the Stanley Cup. How they respond, though, is in the hands of the leadership group.
