It has been a tough week-plus for Oilers goalie Jack Campbell, who expressed his frustration with his recent demotion after suffering a tough first start back in the AHL.

"I thought I was playing well."

Campbell a scapegoat for Oilers many problems

Edmonton has been in absolute shambles to start the season, registering only five points over their first 12 games.

On Thursday of last week, they made the first of what many believe could be a bevy of shakeups to the lineup and bench when they placed Campbell on waivers and called up Calvin Pickard from Bakersfield (AHL).

At the time, Campbell had a 1-4-0 record, 4.50 GAA and .873 save percentage in five starts.

Thursday night the goaltender played his first game since being demoted and struggled, allowing four goals on 20 shots in a losing effort for Bakersfield.

In addressing the demotion, the nine-year NHL veteran sounded bit bewildered by the move. Campbell signed a five-year, $25 million contract with Edmonton in July of 2022.
