Elliotte Friedman Reveals the Senators Will be Punished for Illegal Trade
Last night, Elliotte Friedman revealed that the NHL was taking action against the Ottawa Senators for a trade which occurred last year, where the Sens traded Evgeny Dadonov to the Vegas Golden Knights. If you recall, the Knights tried to move him to the Anaheim Ducks, a move which did not go through and was a particularly messy situation.
Now, it appears that the Senators were at fault for this, and will be punished for it.
"When [Vegas] acquired him from the Ottawa Senators they were told that Dadonov had not submitted his trade request in on time so if Vegas wanted to move him they could do whatever they needed to do," revealed Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada.

Severity of Punishment Not Yet Known for Illegal Move
Obviously, this is a big deal for the NHL. The League needs to protect its players by honouring contracts, and GMs need to have certainty that they know everything that is in a player's contract prior to acquiring them. While we don't know exactly what the punishment will be for the Senators, Friedman thinks we can expect an announcement soon.
"That wasn't the case, he had submitted it," added Friedman. "The reason its relevant now is because sometime in the next few days the NHL is going to announce some sort of punishment to the Senators for that situation.

This is an interesting drama for the NHL that doesn't happen very often, but when it does it has huge ripple effects!
