Jesse Puljujarvi has been one of the most frustrating prospects and players to watch develop in a long time. Heading into his draft year he was electric and seen as a future star. Now he remains without a contract and his future is uncertain.

Puljujarvi's Career To This Point

Jesse Puljujarvi was a top prospect for the 2016 NHL Draft after accumulating 28 points in 50 games in Finland. He was selected 4th overall in the draft and set to play alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl for years to come.
However, his time in Edmonton would be constant struggles to find consistency. Between injuries, a global pandemic, and subpar performance Puljujarvi struggled to stay in the lineup. Finally, last season he was traded at the deadline to the Carolina Hurricanes and given a new chance. He only played 17 games and had 2 points.
After all of the struggles, the 25-year-old forward remains without a job. His future has been unknown all offseason and now into the season. Today we finally got a peek into what the plan could be.

NHL Analyst Confirms Puljujarvi's NHL Future

We are now weeks into the NHL season and hockey all around the world and Jesse Puljujarvi does not have a contract. Many people are shocked he was not given a tryout or a chance in training camp. Today NHL analyst Frank Seravalli provided some insight into his future.
«He will get another shot. My guess is he's probably going to have to start somewhere on a professional tryout or an AHL deal to try and work his way back. I think it wasn't just a health thing that kept him from getting to the level that he wanted to be at, and a lot of people thought that he could get to. I think there was also a confidence factor, so I think he's got a long way to go, and teams aren't going to be knocking down his door to get another opportunity after the way things ended in Carolina. It was pretty bleak, so he's got a long way back.»

Seravalli confirms the NHL opportunity will likely come eventually. He will have to play likely in the minors and show he can handle a pro schedule and produce in ways he has not since coming to North America.
While it sounds like Jesse Puljujarvi's NHL career is still alive it is on life support at this point. If he wants to get back to his promising potential he needs to start showing signs of improvement immediately once he gets a contract.
