It has now been confirmed that Rasmus Andersson will appeal his suspension, putting the fate of the Flames in the hands of Gary Bettman.

Andersson Officially Appeals Four Game Suspension

It was previously rumoured that Rasmus Andersson and the Calgary Flames were going to appeal the four-game suspension he received for laying a high hit on Patrik Laine. Now, it has been confirmed by Elliotte Friedman that they will be going through with the appeal.

As initially reported by @EricFrancis, Rasmus Andersson will appeal his four-game suspension. It will be heard by Commissioner Gary Bettman. Because it is lower than six games (and did not feature an in-person hearing), there is no independent arbitrator. Bettman has final say.

The rules of the appeal mean that Gary Bettman will be the judge of whether or not a four-game suspension is warranted.

Hit Deserving of a Significant Punishment

No one is questioning whether or not the hit was deserving of a suspension, as Andersson delivered the hit straight to Laine's head in the dying seconds of the game. What's worse, Laine was injured as a result of the play.

Calgary's Rasmus Andersson has been suspended for four games for Charging Columbus' Patrik Laine, per @NHLPlayerSafety

We will now await the final decision by Gary Bettman, who will have to be cautious about the precedent he will set if he does decide to lower the suspension.
