Alex Ovechkin has been one of the best NHL players of all time throughout his career. Tonight however he reached a new milestone that indicates the end could be nearer than we think.

Ovechkin May Be Closer To Retirement Than Expected

Tonight in a 6-1 loss against the Ottawa Senators Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals struggled. The struggles provided a first in the NHL for Alex Ovechkin. This is the first time that Ovechkin has gone two games without a shot in his career.

Monday's game vs #Flames and tonight's game @ #Sens, Alex Ovechkin has been held without a shot on goal in consecutive games for the first time in his ENTIRE career (per NHL.com's Tom Gulitti), which is in its 19th season.

He has also been held without a goal through the first 3 games for the 2nd season in a row, and just the 3rd time in his career.

The longest Ovi has gone without a goal to start a season was in the 2013 lockout year, when he went 4 games without a goal. He led the NHL in goals that season with 32 in 48 games. #ALLCAPS

This is a worrying sign for both Ovechkin and the Capitals who were hoping to play a more offensive and high-flying style. As of now, the Capitals have struggled mightily only winning one game. If the Capitals can't get things back on track and Ovechkin struggles to produce he may consider retirement a lot more heavily.

While this is just speculation make sure to enjoy every second of Alex Ovechkin that you can because you never know when the legend might play his last NHL game.
