Perhaps we can file this one under 'too much information.'

Why Demko Was Pulled

In the third period of last night's game between the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers, Canucks coach Rick Tocchet had to pull goaltender Thatcher Demko in the third period. It likely came as a surprise to a few fans, as Vancouver was pounding Edmonton at the time. Tocchet told reporters after the game that he had a good reason.

Making Its Rounds

It turns out the Canucks have been dealing with a flu in the locker room for a few days. Demko really wanted to play in the season opener, and Tocchet decided to make it happen. The poor guy held out as long as he could. While I've never personally had this happen, I can't imagine throwing up in a mask in a pleasant experience.

Luckily for Vancouver, the team doesn't play again until Saturday night, giving players a couple of days to try and flush the virus out. After downing the Oilers last night 8-1, Saturday night brings a rematch at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
