Matthew Knies had an electric start to his NHL career last spring after leaving the University of Minnesota. Now on the verge of a new season, things might be going off the rails for Knies.

Knies Expected To Suffer Massive Setback

Sources close to the Toronto Maple Leafs and their decision-makers believe that Matthew Knies is about to get some bad news. According to one source the Maple Leafs are likely to send Knies down to the AHL in the next day or two.
Leafs fans should brace themselves to potentially see Matt Knies assigned to the AHL today or tomorrow.

It would be nothing more than a paper transaction to help them get cap compliant before possibly placing Conor Timmins on LTIR. Knies will be in the opening night lineup.
As the post says Knies is expected to be assigned to the AHL. Maple Leafs fans shouldn't worry though this is likely just a move to get compliant while they work out the final roster. The most likely move is Conor Timmins being placed on Long Term Injured Reserve (LTIR) to make room for Knies.

If Matthew Knies does indeed get to start with the Maple Leafs he will look to continue his strong play from last season. Knies played 3 regular season games and had 1 point. His true impact came in the playoffs when he had 4 points in 7 games with the Maple Leafs.
Knies will likely enter the season playing a middle-six role with the Maple Leafs. His success or struggles from there will determine his full role within the Maple Leafs roster. He will likely be one of the most talked about rookies early in the year. If he gets off to a hot start he could find himself in Rookie of the Year conversations.
